Cycle Network Assessments in Post-Earthquake Christchurch | Mike Smith
Following the Christchurch earthquakes, a total rethink of transport modes for the city has been undertaken, and new and innovative processes have had to be developed to ensure that cycling projects deliver the best outcome for all users. Mike Smith from MWH explored some of the issues that caused community concern, and outlined the Safety Audit and Network Functionality Review (SANF) process deployed. The SANF process has now won two awards in New Zealand and is being presented by the New Zealand Transport Agency (Walking and Cycling Group) as a very useful tool for all road authorities.
The presentation contained real life examples of some of the outcomes identified, and the thought change process that the teams have gone through to provide a clear result for decision makers to take a project forward.
